What are Custom-Made Contacts?

Custom contacts are contacts that have been specifically designed and manufactured for a single individual by an accredited provider of eye care services. Unlike standard contacts, which come in many different shapes and sizes, custom contacts are typically designed to fit specific eyesight needs or preferences. Many people are interested in customized contact lenses because they offer several benefits.

Benefits of Custom Contact Lenses

  • Customization
  • Improved vision
  • More comfort

Reduced risk of eye infection Reduced risk of corneal ulceration Reduced risk of contact lens intolerance Improved cosmesis Increased wearing time.

Types of Custom Contact Lenses

Common types of Custom Contact lenses include:

  • Ortho-K Lenses
  • Rigid Gas Permeable (RGP) Lenses

Caring for Custom Contact Lenses

Custom contact lenses require the same basic care as regular contact lenses. However, because they are designed specifically for your eyes, it's important to follow all of your eye doctor's instructions for cleaning, storing, and wearing them.

Be sure to:

  • Wash your hands before handling your lenses
  • Clean your lenses according to your eye doctor's instructions
  • Store your lenses in a clean, dry place
  • Replace your lenses according to your eye doctor's schedule
  • Do not wear your lenses for longer than recommended
  • See your eye doctor for regular checkups

If you experience any pain, redness, swelling, or other discomforts with your custom contact lenses, be sure to see your optometrist right away.
